CBS/BHMT Assist II (HCY Assist II) is specially formulated for those with low functioning thyroid who need support for CBS/BHMT. This formulation contains nutrients that help support the enzymes Cystathionine-ß-synthase (CBS) and Betaine-homocysteine S-methyltransferase (BHMT). CBS catalyzes the first step of the transsulfuration pathway, converting homocysteine into cystathionine. Elevated homocysteine levels are associated with a myriad of chronic health conditions including cardiovascular disease. The BHMT enzyme catalyzes a methyl transfer from betaine to homocysteine to form dimethylglycine and methionine, respectively. Methionine is needed to produce our body’s primary methyl donor, SAMe. Genetic polymorphisms and epigenetic factors can cause these enzymes to function improperly, leading to high homocysteine and low SAMe. Nutrients such as organic kelp, lecithin, phosphatidylserine, phosphatidylcholine, yucca, and trimethylglycine can help support these very important biological reactions. This product can be used in those with impaired transsulfuration pathways, reflected by low glutathione, high homocysteine as well as a multitude of symptoms that reflect impairment in sulfation and methylation.
